S Cam Bushings and Drive Angles
Removing s-cam bushings is very simple. After the s-cam is removed from the tube all that is left is to beat out the bushings. You can use a special kit that his cylinders for different sized tubes but we had to use the s-cam itself. After many hard hits with a full sized sledgehammer they finally came out. Pictured below is the installation of new ones.
Doing drive angles is also one of the easier tasks. Using a digital protractor, you can easily see how many degrees up or downhill the surface is on.
First we started the truck and built up air pressure to allow the air bags to fill up. Then we set and released the parking brakes, the process is to make sure the truck is sitting even. You then zero the protractor on the frame to ensure accuracy.
These are our measurements. We were told most of the time this is done to find where a suspected drive-line vibration is coming from and its rarely the case.
We also got to put back together the differential the other team tore apart last week
Good use of pictures and thinking. Evidence to future employers that you are competent.
